HSPT PREP

Non-boring teaching methods. Individualized instruction.

1:1

attention

Our focus is on the students. We teach toward their individual learning styles the strategies that work for them so that students get the most out of their sessions.

questions

We believe succeeding on the test requires knowledge and practice. Therefore, we teach the concepts behind the test, everything from comma rules and Greek roots to word problems, and strategies to perform well on this fast-paced exam.

test a week

To solidify concepts and mimic a test-taking environment, we recommend practice tests for at least the six weeks leading up to the official exam to build endurance.

We customize our curriculum for every student based on individual strengths and weaknesses, using a selection of the best preparatory resources available and our own proprietary materials. Instruction is focused on conceptual review, test-taking strategies, and practice exams — the three proven ways to boost scores.

About the test

The HSPT, or High School Placement Test, is a standardized test required by a number of Catholic schools for admission to their high school. It is administered at such Catholic schools typically around December each year. Students may only take the HSPT once.

The HSPT is a test of not only knowledge but speed.

Structure

The standard HSPT has 5 sections:

  1. Verbal – 60 questions, 16 minutes

  2. Quantitative – 52 questions, 30 minutes

  3. Reading – 62 questions, 25 minutes

  4. Math – 64 questions, 45 minutes

  5. Language – 60 questions, 25 minutes

All questions on the HSPT are multiple choice, and students use a bubble sheet. Points are not deducted for incorrect answers, so students should answer every question on the test.
