Mathematics — A Universal Language

Math is all around us, whether we can see it or not. Most people perform quick mathematical calculations every single day. An example of some daily mathematical tasks include any financial transaction, cooking a recipe at home or calculating the tip in a restaurant, or even understanding the analytics and statistics of your favorite professional sports team.

The process of learning a specific math topic can be daunting, but after doing the math, students often express a feeling of unparalleled satisfaction upon completion and comprehension of a new concept. Specific problem solving skills that are required to learn a new math topic are applicable to other decisions in life that require comparable critical thinking abilities. Mathematics is truly the language of the universe as it helps to explain how the world works and how objects interact with one another.

Here at Principia, we help students to understand each individual step in the solution process so that they not only fully comprehend how to solve a math problem, but also why they are performing each step. Whether students are in need of academic support to shore up any fundamental knowledge gaps in previous topics or want to push ahead to learn future concepts through enrichment, we have just the instructor for you! So let’s roll up those sleeves, pull out those #2 pencils, and  begin to work with the next generation of mathematicians, engineers, or scientists to unlock the secrets of the universe together!

Math Enrichment Program

Math problem solving is a combination of training in advanced mathematical techniques and applying them to complex math problems and mathematical modeling. There are a variety of math competition contests available for middle and high school students, such as AMC, MOEMS, Noetic math, MCL, MATHCOUNTS, MathCon, etc. These contests assess the students’ ability in out-of-the-box thinking and problem solving skills. Number theory, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and counting and probability make up the core content of these contests. In addition, a list of students with the highest scores in these competitions is made available to colleges and instructions interested in admitting high performing candidates.
