Final school decisions were more challenging than usual given the COVID-19 situation — almost all schools canceled their prospective weekends — but we worked closely with students throughout the decision-making and financial aid negotiation process.
A few thoughts on this year’s results:
There was more movement from waitlists than usual. While there are a number of possible explanations, we suspect that the COVID-19 situation affected international yield numbers — with many schools considering going online this fall, it’s understandable that many students may choose to opt for gap years.
With the above in mind, continued interest letters were a significant difference-maker. Nearly all of our students who kept in close touch with regional admissions counselors were offered admission.
Interviews do matter. One of our students who was accepted into Harvard had an hour-and-half interview with an alum, covering a wide range of topics that demonstrated his wide-ranging curiosity and passion for news, anthropology, AI, and the Golden State Warriors. Top schools, as always, are looking for “unusual effervescence.”
Congrats again to all of our students (and parents)! We’re looking forward to another year of working closely with students to help them shape their narratives for college (yes, it’s time to get started).
