As the Wall Street Journal noted in March, this was one of the most unpredictable admissions cycles in recent memory—changes to testing policies, FAFSA issues, and of course, the recent Supreme Court case all had an impact on the ever-changing admissions landscape. While our own admissions outcomes were in line with our expectations—over 80% of our students were accepted to one of their top 3 choices—we also experienced our share of surprises; for example, there was more movement on waitlists than in recent years.

Looking ahead to this year’s application cycle, we’re anticipating somewhat of a return to “normalcy” — with many schools going back to test-required policies, overall applications should drop a bit closer to pre-COVID numbers, allowing for a truly holistic review of candidates.

As for the essays themselves, we continue to be impressed with the range and creativity of our students. One of our Stanford students wrote a “how-to” guide for making perfume for her main essay, connecting each step to overcoming challenges in high school and her growing confidence; another student wrote his UVA essay on a beloved hiking trail and the realization that every trail in the forest is evidence of a community at work. We tackled topics ranging from Romanian door carvings, the night sky in Death Valley, the perils and unspoken promise of ski sharpening, and lessons learned from competitive rock climbing — and as always, we’re honored to have played a small part in these students’ acceptances.

Congrats again to the class of 2028!
